Mr. Creatovsky
a.k.a. Wouter van der Toorn
I tell stories. In books, films, songs... and everything in between. As Mr. Creatovsky, I write songs. Whatever the style, each one is a story that’s passed through my soul. Sometimes raw. Sometimes poetic. Sometimes painfully exposed.
I don’t make music to fit in. I’m looking for words that touch something real. And sometimes, a song does that better than anything else.
With Mr. Creatovsky, anything goes: genres, moods, forms. But the story is always the heart of it. The music is made using different platforms and tools, but the feeling behind it is real. I hope you can hear that.
Besides music, I’m a pianist, writer, photographer, but above all, a storyteller. I live in Dordrecht. But honestly, the inspiration often comes from somewhere else. Another world. Or maybe another reality.
From Church Organ to Digital Studio
My musical journey began early. After years of music lessons, I became a church organist at thirteen in a strict Reformed congregation. The organ with its rich registers and wide array of sounds was my first real introduction to making music for others.
But music grows with you. The organ gave way to the piano, and I played in various bands. The eighties and nineties were a playground for someone like me - the first digital pianos, MIDI technology, sound cards from Yamaha and Roland with their distinctive sounds. I dove right in and discovered all the possibilities.
Besides playing, I also started writing songs and took singing lessons. I still love sitting at the piano. Often I just let my fingers wander and see where the music takes me.
Music and Stories
For me, music and stories are inseparably connected. Many of my texts and thoughts naturally give birth to melodies. Where I used to spend hours working with MIDI cables, I now use software and even AI tools that help me create the music I love to listen to.
I don't write music to top the charts. For me, it's about those special moments when music opens a different door to your heart - a door that words alone cannot find. And who knows, maybe you'll find something in it that touches you too.
